Class: Dec 13th Israeli/Palestinian Relations

Hi Everyone!

Glad to be back in Taiwan!

So our next KMUN class on Monday will be on Palestinian Israeli Relations. If you have time look up one article about recent news with Israeli Palestine relations. Grace will be giving a presentation on past Israeli history since the establishment of the Israeli state and Terry will be giving one on recent Israeli history. Then we'll have a discussion on the diplomatic state of this issue.

The Israeli/Palestinian issue has been a contentious issue for decades and has proven to be one of the most difficult diplomatic situations on the world arena. At World MUN 2010 the Yom Kippur war between the Israeli state and surrounding nations was a topic for the HGA, and the ramifications of decisions made during that assembly still shape relations in the middle east today. As many of you no doubt have discovered in the last class, the relationship of Israel with their surrounding nations, and particularly concerning their actions/inactions towards Palestine, is cited as one of the major reasons for tensions between the Middle East and Israeli supporters on the world arena, and is frequently used as a focal point for Islamic extremism.

I look forward to seeing you guys here!

Time: 2010 Dec 13 (Mon) 7PM~9PM (We're starting a bit later this time)
Location: KMU  N110
Topic: Israeli/Palestinian Relations

Best,
Grace.

Ps: Next Class will be a mock MUN. Our agenda for that mock MUN will be discussed in this class and you will be representing the nations you presented in the last MUN class.

Sunday Movie, Monday Position Paper

Hi y'all,

As you might be aware, we have study groups every Sunday Night (except for exams week). So Sunday, sort of as a celebration after midterms, we'll be watching The Interpreter, directed by Sidney Pollack.

The Interpreter Movie and Discussion
Time: 2010 Nov 14th, 6pm~9pm
Location: Kaohsiung Medical University NB117

The movie is about an interpreter working in the UN, who overhears a plot to assassinate a president. She is put under the scrutiny of the Secret Service as they try to find the assassins. It's exciting, moving, thought provoking, and garnished with Nichole Kidman's impeccable style.

As this is a study group session, there will be an intro and discussion afterwards. Please feel free to bring friends and dinner!

The following Monday we will have a class on how to Write Position Papers and Research. This should be vital  those who are planning to attend WMUN with us and more importantly, the recent Island MUN delegations!

How to Write Position Papers and Conduct Research
Time: 2010 Nov 15th (Monday) 18:00~20:30
Location: Kaohsiung Medical University NB117

Best,
Grace.

About Island Model UN 2010     November 27th to 28th

“Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish”

1.      提供大學生實際接觸及了解國際事務的機會;

2.      更有效地在北大校園內推廣模聯;

3.      作為校際模聯社的資訊交流平台;

4.      提供校際模聯初學者基礎練習的管道;

1.      宣傳與交流性質;

2.      給予初學者必要的協助及建議;

3.      嚴謹的會議模擬及程序;

4.      收費及其他門檻要求相對低廉及簡單;

5.      素材上著重傳統議題的再架構;

6.      友善及貼心的會場服務;

Registration deadline Nov. 10th

A delegation can be comprised of 2~3 people. If you're interested in joining a delegation with us please reply to this e-mail stating your name and phone number.

9/29 Class: The Last King of Scotland

Dear all,

So our next class on Wednesday will be a movie and discussion.
We'll be watching The Last King of Scotland 最後的蘇格蘭王 and discussing. Feel free to look up the background of the movie if you'd like to come prepared!

Since the film runs two hours and we'd like to have sufficient time to do a foreword (so you'd have a better idea of what to notice throughout the film) and a good discussion afterwards, this time we start at 5:30pm.

Time-- September 29th (Wed) 17:30~20:30 (Bring your dinner along!)
Location-- KMU CS312 (changed)

And remember, our Orientation is the next night! September 30th (Thur) 18:00~20:30! We just bought some great food from Costco, there'll be special guests from NCKU MUN (成大模聯) and we'll also be having some fun games and sizzling salsa! So join us and bring your friends!

Yours,
Grace.
